Nation Media Group Supports Cancer Treatment

Nation Media Group (NMG) and staff have supported the refurbishment of thyroid cancer isolation ward at Kenyatta National Hospital at a cost of KES.4.2 million.

The thyroid ward is the only facility in Kenya where patients with cancer of the thyroid are given iodine treatment regimen. The ward accommodates two patients at a time during the five day treatment period.

Speaking during the official hand over of the refurbished ward, Mr. Linus Gitahi NMG CEO thanked his staff for initiating the renovation of the ward and involving NMG management in support of the project.

Mr. Gitahi commended Ms Diana Mwango for involving friends, colleagues and for mobilizing resources which signifies the importance of individual effort in collective social responsibility.

The NMG CEO, called on individuals and corporate institutions to emulate the selfless action by the NMG staff and assist Kenyatta National Hospital.

Appreciating the donations, Lily Koros Tare, KNH CEO noted that KNH provides cancer treatment to over 500 patients and attends to over 1000 patients through the clinics. Majority of the patients cannot afford private health care services leading to the increased demand for the limited available resources.

She added that while other cancer treatment services are ongoing, the Hospital has currently one radiotherapy machine which is not adequate to serve the high number of cancer patients.
