IN BRIEF
These are just a few of the events that occurred within the months of January to April this year:
LAUNCH OF SPORT ON!
Seeking to target the avid and analytical sports fan, Nation Media Group launched Sport On! a dedicated, full-colour bi-weekly sports newspaper on January 17, 2013, officially hitting the streets a day later on January 18, 2013.
Retailing at just Kshs. 30, Sport On! seeks to address the void in the market in regard to exclusive and analytical sport content.
The newspaper is available every Monday and Friday with its priority being developing Kenyan sport in addition to growing the country’s sportsmen and women into role models in society by highlighting their successes and equally learning from their shortcomings.
Sport On! serves as a unique newspaper in its own right as it gives various sports personalities an opportunity to write personalized columns in the newspaper in turn bringing the hugely celebrated sportsmen and women closer to the people thus airing their experiences first hand. The sports personalities cum local columnists include vollyballer Jane Wacu, Lorna Kiplagat, Dennis Mwanja and notable radio personality Maina Kageni.
The first edition included a 16-page pullout on the Africa Cup of Nations.
So far, the sports newspaper has conducted quite a number of sports events with the latest one being a skate derby at the GP Karting Track on May 4, 2013, with over 900 people present at the event.
