INSURANCE FIRMS WIN BIG IN COYA AWARDS
Insurance firms won big during the recent Company of the Year (COYA) awards scooping four awards out of the 16 categories at a gala dinner at the Carnivore Grounds on November 2.
Insurance firm Pan Africa Life Company took home two awards namely the Leadership and Management Award and CEO of the Year Award for their CEO Mr. Tom Gitogo.
Another insurance firm UAP Insurance was declared as the third best company in the survey which saw Toyota Kenya and investment firm Britam take home the first and second prizes respectively.
The competition witnessed over 100 companies participating with 40 of them being new entrants.
The awards were launched 12 years ago by the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) as a way to benchmark companies against international best practices on marketing, financial management and corporate citizenship.
Participants were judged using the Organisational Performance Index (OPI) which was initially introduced by KIM in 2010.
“The tool (OPI) has helped us improve various departments as a company and we believe that it will also help other companies to grow and that explains why we will continue supporting the exercise in the coming year,” said Nation Media Group Chief Executive Officer Mr. Linus Gitahi during the gala dinner.
Speaking during the function, Safaricom Limited Chief Executive Officer and chief guest Mr. Bob Collymore said, “Our economies have become borderless and in order for us to compete we need to align our strategies with global best practices.”
Previous winners include Nation Media Group which took home the company of the year and best CEO awards in 2010.
The main sponsors of the event were Nation Media Group and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Others included Chandaria Foundation, Mt Kenya University, Better Globe Forestry, Sachn and Avni Foundation, Emergency Medical Services, Google Kenya among others.
