NMG Hosts First-ever Water Forum

Nation Media Group (NMG), in partnership with the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, recently hosted the inaugural Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Conference in Nairobi, bringing together stakeholders from government, development agencies, and the private sector to explore solutions to Kenya’s water and sanitation challenges.

The event, theme” “Sustainable Water and Sanitation Management Solutions—Collaborate, Innovate, Transform,” marked a strategic shift towards multi-sectorial dialogue.

It also aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal six, which seeks to ensure access to water and sanitation for all.

Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa said the government is committed to achieving universal access to safe water and sanitation by 2030.

Mr. Mugaa said the ministry is committed to food security through irrigated agriculture and long-term water availability.

“In the past two and a half years, joint efforts have increased national water and sanitation coverage from 70 to 73 per cent, and improved sanitation access from 67 to 69 per cent,” CS Mugaa said.

NMG MD and CEO, Geoffrey Odundo said the media house was committed to playing a catalytic role in addressing development issues.

“This moment marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to address the pressing water and sanitation challenges facing our nation. It also reaffirms our enduring commitment as a media house to positively influence society—a core tenet of our very existence,” Mr Odundo said.
