As NMG journeys towards becoming a more agile, customer-centric and data driven organization, sustainability has increasingly become a key enabler to drive business continuity by driving value for the community. It is for this reason that the Nation Media Foundation has been established and has hit the ground running.

The Foundation will focus on driving the organization’s sustainability through improved internal functions from the inclusion of SMEs in its value chains to promoting gender equality while simultaneously working with partners and key actors in the development space, government, civil society and others to enhance its outreach activities in education, climate change and various other areas.

The Foundation’s focus areas are

• Health

The Foundation’s flagship pillar, Education and Literacy, is strongly aligned to Nation Media Group’s mission to create value for our stakeholders and positively influence society by providing media that informs, educates, and entertains.

The Foundation will help increase the literacy levels of 5 million young Kenyans in the next five years through access to books and other reading materials in 141 libraries across the country.  Preparations are underway for the construction of the first library, which will kick off in the next few weeks in Ngong Town. In the interest of sustainability, the facility will use renewable energy and also feature a water recycling system. Following completion, the Foundation will hold a launch, which will also serve as the grand opening of the Ngong library pilot project.

In addition to the facility, robust programs will be run where kids and young students will engage in reading symposiums, literacy workshops, book festivals and other exciting programs. Members of the Nation Media Group staff are warmly invited to participate in any way possible to contribute their time, talents and ideas to this cause.
