Two Nation Media Group digital products, Newsplex and My Network, beat entries from across Africa to win top honours at the 2017 Digital Media Africa Awards announced on Tuesday in Frankfurt, Germany.

Nation Media Group has become the first media organization in East and Southern Africa to join UN Women’s Global Media Compact programme. Launched in 2016 the ‘Step it Up for Gender Equality Media Compact’ partners with media outlets to implement the Sustainable Development Agenda, with a focus on gender equality and women’s rights issues through gender sensitive reporting and increasing the number of women in the media, including in leadership and decision-making roles. UN Women will work with the Nation Media Group to mainstream gender equality and women’s empowerment in the media house by providing technical support to ensure gender sensitive content generation.

Nation media Group (NMG) was on Thursday feted for being the most innovative company in a survey that recognised its revamped digital plan to attract a larger audience for its news and entertainment content.

The survey by Think Business also ranked NMG first on sustainable corporate social responsibility projects.

Nation Newsplex beat an Africa-wide field to win top honours in the African Fact-Checking Awards held on Saturday night in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The data journalism desk of the Daily Nation won the English-language 2017 African Fact Checking Award for its ‘Before you vote’ series, which fact-checked the claims made by election candidates prior to the general election of August 8, 2017.

From May to August 2017, Nation Newsplex checked claims that politicians made in public, most during public rallies. Through factchecking, Newsplex revealed it was not true that the Kilifi County had received more than Sh40billion from the national government over four and a half years, as President Kenyatta had claimed during a campaign rally.

An excellent opening nine score saw youngster Ishaan Nathaani beat 73 other golfers, to claim the overall title in the final leg of Nation Golf Circuit at par-71 Eldoret Golf Club at the weekend.

Playing off handicap 25 which was later chopped to 22, Nathaani made a double bogey at the par three-second hole, but parred three holes for an impressive 22 points.
