Five Schools in Nairobi County set to benefit from NIE Program

Five schools in Nairobi County are set to benefit from the Newspapers in Education Program (NIE), thanks to Isuzu East Africa and Nation Media Group.

The launch of the sponsorship was held at Embakasi Girls’ Secondary school in Nairobi on Saturday, 3rd February 2024. Students from the five schools will receive a year supply of Daily Nation and Taifa Leo Newspapers.

Speaking during the event, NMG Head of Circulation and Distribution said the program offers an opportunity for students to improve their overall performance.

“We are extremely excited to be supporting schools across the country through the NIE Program. Our goal is to improve literacy levels among the students and eventually turnaround performance. We are therefore very keen on tracking performance because that is how we measure the impact of the program,” Kihuria noted adding that,” By sponsoring 5 schools, Isuzu has gone a long way in changing the lives of many in this nation. We are truly grateful for this partnership.”

Duncan Muhindi, Head of Communication at Isuzu East Africa, on his part lauded the NIE project calling on other like-minded organisations to be part of such initiatives.

“This is indeed a life changing initiative that we are proud to be part of. We are looking forward to a long-term partnership with NMG even as we seek to build the future generation.”

NIE been in existence for over 10 years. The program is anchored under NMG’s mission to educate, inform and entertain.
NMG has invested in education content and promotes this program as part of Corporate Social Responsibility – giving back to the community.

The objective is to inculcate a reading culture and to help in improving literacy samong the students. Currently more than 500 schools are actively participating in the program.
